Why All Homeowners Should Not Overlook AC Maintenance

Blog

Many homeowners do not view their AC maintenance as a necessary expense. This will usually lead to inoperable systems at some point. If some people understood what technicians do during servicing, they would likely choose to get their systems serviced to avoid future expenses that could exceed what it would have cost them to keep their systems maintained. The following points will help you understand why AC maintenance and how it protects you.

Time Saver

Perhaps you have been avoiding AC maintenance because you have been busy. You may think that the process will be time-consuming, or you may be unaware that many technicians offer their services after hours. Servicing a system will likely be a quicker service call than performing diagnostics on it due to mechanical failure. It is also possible that your contractor may have special pricing for system maintenance, which means you could save even more by doing the right thing.

Improved Air Quality

Individuals who have allergies could get sick if they breathe in air that is poor quality. Allergens such as dust, pollen, and mold spores can circulate in the air when systems are not properly maintained. This usually occurs as the result of the systems not getting cleaned. One area of your AC system that is notorious for trapping allergens are the air ducts. When technicians perform servicing, they usually clean dust and other debris from systems. During their inspections, they can also clean dirty ducts, which can improve air quality. You also need to ensure that you change your air filter as recommended to keep as less dust as possible from settling back into your AC system. If you notice dust on your air vents, it may be a sign that your filter is in immediate need of changing.

Better Efficiency

An AC system that has not been serviced may result in you having higher energy bills. This is because the systems may have to perform harder. If you have leaky air ducts, they are a source of energy loss. Technicians inspect for leaky ducts and can replace them during service visits to improve efficiency. You can do your part to improve efficiency between visits by changing your air filter as recommended.

A residential HVAC services contractor is a good resource to use to understand more about what AC maintenance entails. They can also offer you tips on ensuring that your system runs as efficiently as possible, which can further protect it against mechanical failures.

Cool off Your AC Bill

Every summer, I agonized over energy bills that would shoot into the stratosphere as a result of my efforts to keep cool in the heat. Every time I turned the temperature down, my bills increased. This summer, I decided to take some of the control over my energy bill back. I installed reflective film on my windows that reduced the amount of light and heat coming into the house. I started serving more cold meals or asking my husband to barbecue outside, so that my air conditioner didn't have to compete with the hot stove, and I started doing laundry at night to reduce appliance heat in the house at peak times. I also had ceiling fans installed. So far, the difference in my bill has been tremendous. This blog is a way for me to explore other ways to reduce energy drain during the summer months.
