Blog

A malfunctioning heating system can make winter dreadful for your family. As a homeowner, you need a properly installed and well-functioning heating system to keep your home comfortable and prevent winter-related complications, such as frozen or burst pipes. As such, it is imperative to examine your unit's performance frequently to ensure that it is ready for winter. If your home's heating system is malfunctioning, you need to arrange for heating repair as soon as possible to avoid a last-minute rush.

Once a heating issue gets detected at its earliest stage, it will be easy and less expensive to repair. The signs discussed below will help you know when to hire a heating repair contractor to examine and fix your malfunctioning heating system.

Your Heating Bills Are Out of Control

As a homeowner, you need to seek professional assistance if your home's heating bills increase dramatically. This problem may occur when your heater is faulty. A malfunctioning unit is usually less efficient. It will work harder and consume more power than usual to cool your house, which will increase your bills excessively. A heating repair contractor will examine your heater's failing components and fix them to restore energy efficiency and save you money on power bills.

You Notice Multiple Cold Spots in Your House

Cold spots or uneven heating is another sign of heating system failure that some homeowners tend to ignore. This problem occurs when your heater is emitting cold air instead of warm air. You may experience uneven heating in your home when your unit's blower fan is malfunctioning. In older homes, this problem may occur due to ductwork issues. It is important to contact a heating repair professional immediately when you notice cold spots in your house to avoid more problems.

Your Notice Excessive Condensation on Your Windows

Your heater should regulate the amount of moisture in every room of your house. Therefore, you should hire a professional to inspect it if you notice that it is adding moisture to your home. Excessive condensation on your house's windows is a concrete sign to help you know that your heating system is malfunctioning. A heating repair technician will identify the cause of this problem and offer a lasting solution.

As a homeowner, if you experience any of the above problems, you need to schedule an inspection before it is too late. Hiring a certified and experienced heating repair contractor when your heating system develops issues will prevent them from escalating, which will save you money on repair costs and minimize the risk of an emergency breakdown. Cool off Your AC Bill

Every summer, I agonized over energy bills that would shoot into the stratosphere as a result of my efforts to keep cool in the heat. Every time I turned the temperature down, my bills increased. This summer, I decided to take some of the control over my energy bill back. I installed reflective film on my windows that reduced the amount of light and heat coming into the house. I started serving more cold meals or asking my husband to barbecue outside, so that my air conditioner didn't have to compete with the hot stove, and I started doing laundry at night to reduce appliance heat in the house at peak times. I also had ceiling fans installed. So far, the difference in my bill has been tremendous. This blog is a way for me to explore other ways to reduce energy drain during the summer months.
