Why Are Air Conditioning Services Important For A Small Business?

Blog

Running a business is hard work. With so many things going on, it can be easy to overlook less routine things like air conditioning service. However, that could be a mistake that costs your business over time. Here's why.

Food Spoilage

If you're in the grocery or restaurant business or even if you just sell snacks, having your air conditioner go out could cause your food to spoil. Of course, you probably have your most sensitive items under refrigeration already. However, most refrigerators and freezers are designed to work in an air conditioned building. If your building gets too hot, your refrigerator or freezer may not be able to maintain a safe temperature.

In addition, many foods that are stored at room temperature can still go bad or lose quality in extreme temperatures. An obvious example is how chocolate will melt in warm temperatures. Remember that many food labels say store in a cool, dry place. In addition to keeping things cool, air conditioners also remove excess humidity.

Other Product Damage

Food isn't the only product that could be damaged by an air conditioner malfunction. Many other items, especially electronics, can't stay in extreme heat. Many warehouses and storage areas are only air conditioned to temperatures in the 80s rather than to a temperature that people might find comfortable at home.

If your air conditioner malfunctions on a hot day, your inside temperatures could quickly rise to 100 degrees or more. That's why it's so important to keep your air conditioner inspected and maintained with regular service.

Uncomfortable Customers

A broker air conditioner also risks making your customers uncomfortable. They might leave without buying anything, shop quickly and not buy as much, or get a bad impression and not want to come back next time. This is why you should think of maintaining your air conditioner as not just an expense but an investment in your business.

Higher Maintenance Costs

Going without regular air conditioner service can also increase your maintenance costs over time. If you get routine inspections, the air conditioning service company might catch a problem early. If your air conditioner never gets service, you might not realize you have a problem until your air conditioner completely breaks. This will leave you with an expensive repair bill, possible higher costs for emergency service, and the lost sales or other costs of having your business disrupted by the problem.

Cool off Your AC Bill

Every summer, I agonized over energy bills that would shoot into the stratosphere as a result of my efforts to keep cool in the heat. Every time I turned the temperature down, my bills increased. This summer, I decided to take some of the control over my energy bill back. I installed reflective film on my windows that reduced the amount of light and heat coming into the house. I started serving more cold meals or asking my husband to barbecue outside, so that my air conditioner didn't have to compete with the hot stove, and I started doing laundry at night to reduce appliance heat in the house at peak times. I also had ceiling fans installed. So far, the difference in my bill has been tremendous. This blog is a way for me to explore other ways to reduce energy drain during the summer months.
