4 Common Ways A Furnace Repair Contractor Can Boost Your Furnace Efficiency

Blog

Your energy bill can increase quickly due to furnace problems. If you are like most homeowners, the chances are that you are looking for ways to enhance the efficiency of your furnace and cut down your energy bills. Fortunately, this article will break down four common ways a furnace repair expert can make your furnace more efficient and lower your energy bills.

 1. Replace Old and Clogged Filters

When you think of clogged air filters, think about how difficult it is to get clean air from a kinked hose. Clogged air filters mean your furnace will have to overwork to keep your home warm during the winter. When your heating system works harder, it consumes more power, translating to higher energy bills.

Even worse, clogged air filters lead to poor air quality in your home. And some rooms may not even get warm at all. A furnace repair expert can replace the clogged air filters with new ones to ensure your heating system runs at its maximum efficiency.

 2. Repair or Replace Damaged Thermostat

If your energy bills are higher than usual, the odds are high that your thermostat is malfunctioning. However, a furnace repair expert can pinpoint the root cause of the damage and fix it. They can also replace your outdated thermostat with modern programmable thermostats, which are more efficient.

With a programmable thermostat, you can use your phone to adjust the thermostat to desired levels even when you are not around. Some thermostats can even give energy reports and tips to keep energy consumption low.

3. Wipe and Seal Air Ducts

Dirt interferes with the smooth flow of air in the furnace ducts. For this reason, your furnace has to work harder and longer than necessary to keep your home warm, which may cause your energy bills to skyrocket. And if your ducts are leaky, hot air will be lost before reaching your vents, making your furnace work harder to make up for the lost air. A furnace repair expert can help clean dirty ducts and seal leaky ducts to improve your furnace's efficiency and cut your energy costs.

4. Timely Repair Services

One of the easiest ways to maximize the efficiency of your furnace is to seek furnace repair services as soon as problems develop. Timely furnace repair will allow the expert to fix damages early before they worsen and make your furnace even less efficient. Timely repair also prolongs your furnace's lifespan.

If you suspect your furnace is not reliable and efficient, it is best to seek the help of a reliable heating contractor. Your furnace will be professionally tuned up to boost efficiency and minimize your power bills.

Cool off Your AC Bill

Every summer, I agonized over energy bills that would shoot into the stratosphere as a result of my efforts to keep cool in the heat. Every time I turned the temperature down, my bills increased. This summer, I decided to take some of the control over my energy bill back. I installed reflective film on my windows that reduced the amount of light and heat coming into the house. I started serving more cold meals or asking my husband to barbecue outside, so that my air conditioner didn't have to compete with the hot stove, and I started doing laundry at night to reduce appliance heat in the house at peak times. I also had ceiling fans installed. So far, the difference in my bill has been tremendous. This blog is a way for me to explore other ways to reduce energy drain during the summer months.
