Time To Install A New AC Unit? Why It's A Good Idea To Install A New Furnace At The Same Time

Blog

If it's time to have a new air conditioner installed in your home, now's the time to consider an entire system replacement. You might not realize this, but replacing your air conditioner and furnace at the same time is a great way to increase the benefits. This is especially true if your furnace has been giving you trouble, or if it's past the maximum life expectancy. If you're not sure how installing a furnace at the same time as an air conditioner will benefit you, read the list provided below. You'll find four great reasons to talk to your HVAC contractor about making it a package installation.

Save Time and Money

When it comes to replacing your air conditioner, you want to save as much time and money as possible. One way to do that is to schedule an off-season installation for your new air conditioner. Many HVAC companies offer a discount for off-season installations. Another way to save time and money on the installation is to invest in a new air conditioner and furnace as a package deal. You can save time by scheduling one installation appointment for both systems. You can save money by paying for the heater and air conditioner at the same time, rather than individually.

Avoid Warranty Mistakes

Now that you're having a new air conditioner installed in your home, the new unit will be protected by a warranty. If your furnace is more than a few years old, it might not have the same warranty protection. Unfortunately, that means that you'll be paying cash for any furnace repairs that are needed. One way to extend the warranty protection to your entire heating and cooling system is to have a new furnace installed when you have your new air conditioner installed. That way, both units have the same warranty protection.

Consolidate Service Calls

If you want to extend the life of your heating and cooling systems, it's important that you keep up with routine maintenance. Unfortunately, that's difficult to do when both units are on different schedules. That's where a package installation comes into the picture. When you have your furnace and air conditioner installed at the same time, you can consolidate the service calls.

Maximize Energy Efficiency

Finally, if your home isn't as energy efficient as you'd like it to be, go beyond the new air conditioner. A new air conditioner will provide you with some added energy efficiency. However, when you have a new furnace installed at the same time, you can maximize the savings.

Cool off Your AC Bill

Every summer, I agonized over energy bills that would shoot into the stratosphere as a result of my efforts to keep cool in the heat. Every time I turned the temperature down, my bills increased. This summer, I decided to take some of the control over my energy bill back. I installed reflective film on my windows that reduced the amount of light and heat coming into the house. I started serving more cold meals or asking my husband to barbecue outside, so that my air conditioner didn't have to compete with the hot stove, and I started doing laundry at night to reduce appliance heat in the house at peak times. I also had ceiling fans installed. So far, the difference in my bill has been tremendous. This blog is a way for me to explore other ways to reduce energy drain during the summer months.
