Features To Look For In Your Home's New AC System

Blog

When choosing a new air conditioning system for your home, it's important to consider features that can impact the unit's efficiency, convenience, and overall performance. Modern AC systems have a range of sophisticated features you can use for your home. By choosing an AC system with these features, you can ensure that you have a unit that is efficient and effective and works seamlessly with the rest of your home's systems.

Smart Home Capabilities

Smart home compatibility is an increasingly popular feature for air conditioning systems. Integrating your AC system with other smart devices in your home offer many benefits, such as improved efficiency and convenience. With smart home compatibility, you can easily control your AC system remotely using your smartphone or other devices. This means you can turn the AC off when you are not home to save energy or turn it on remotely before arriving. Additionally, smart home systems can help optimize your AC system's performance by automatically adjusting the temperature based on your preferences and habits. If your house currently has smart home networking installed, you must choose an AC unit that is compatible with your brand and style of system. By selecting a unit with this feature, you can make your home more efficient and convenient while also saving money on energy bills.

Sanitizing UV Light Systems

UV lighting capabilities are a common feature of modern AC systems. This lighting improves indoor air quality by neutralizing airborne bacteria. For those that suffer from allergies or respiratory problems, neutralizing airborne bacteria is essential for managing their symptoms. Unlike other systems,  these systems do not require toxic chemicals to sanitize the air. Instead, these systems rely on UV lighting to kill bacteria in the air. As an added benefit, eliminating this bacteria may reduce lingering or otherwise foul odors in the home. When choosing a UV light system for your AC, opt for one that offers broad-spectrum performance. This allows it to neutralize as many bacteria as possible.

Compatibility With Your Home's Ducting

Compatibility with existing ductwork is a crucial factor to consider when choosing a new air conditioning system. If your new AC system is incompatible with your home's existing ductwork, you may need to replace or modify the ducts. While it is possible to make this change, it can be costly and time-consuming. Choosing an incompatible system can lead to air leaks and other problems that can reduce the efficiency of your AC system. A professional AC installation contractor can assist you with both properly sizing your AC ducting and completing any necessary upgrades that it might require.

Cool off Your AC Bill

Every summer, I agonized over energy bills that would shoot into the stratosphere as a result of my efforts to keep cool in the heat. Every time I turned the temperature down, my bills increased. This summer, I decided to take some of the control over my energy bill back. I installed reflective film on my windows that reduced the amount of light and heat coming into the house. I started serving more cold meals or asking my husband to barbecue outside, so that my air conditioner didn't have to compete with the hot stove, and I started doing laundry at night to reduce appliance heat in the house at peak times. I also had ceiling fans installed. So far, the difference in my bill has been tremendous. This blog is a way for me to explore other ways to reduce energy drain during the summer months.
